West Newcastle Symphony Orchestra
When children move on from Bridgewater Primary School, we encourage them to continue their musical journey by joining the West Newcastle Symphony Orchestra (WNSO).
WNSO rehearses every Thursday during term time, 5–6:30pm at Hawthorn Primary School and is open to anyone aged 10+ who plays an orchestral instrument. It is a welcoming, inclusive group where young musicians can develop their skills, make friends, and share their love of music.
Our players are dedicated and enthusiastic, performing regularly in the local community. Highlights include two annual concerts at St Matthew’s Church, Elswick, where the orchestra has been warmly embraced, and performances at venues such as The Shipley Art Gallery as part of the Late Shows series.
Each spring term, Year 6 pupils from Bridgewater are invited to join WNSO for a taster session with the opportunity to continue attending throughout the spring and summer terms, along with transports from Bridgewater to Hawthorn school! This helps ensure their musical journey continues seamlessly into secondary school.
