ARC – Koalas

In the ARC the children learn through play based activities planned to capture the children’s interests. During the course of the day learning will take place through a combination of small group sessions led by an adult, individual teaching and periods of child initiated activities where children are supported by adults to extend their learning through their own interests.

The ARC children follow an Early Years Curriculum, or a differentiated National Curriculum depending on their age, and each child also has an Individual Education Plan which identifies areas of particular difficulty for the individual child. We also aim to include the children into mainstream learning where appropriate.

A Speech and Language Assistant works in the ARC 1 full day per fortnight, and a Speech and Language assistant works with individual children 1 day per week. There is also has an Educational Psychologist allocated to work with ARC children where necessary.

Through celebrating the children’s achievements, and offering regular praise and rewards, we aim to create a supportive, caring and warm environment where the children are encouraged to develop independence and confidence, and become proud of their progress.
